Leading names in UK textile industry attended a recent Morocco British Trade Day, at the Intercontinental Hotel in London. The highlight of the event was three hours of business-to-business meetings, where Moroccan manufacturers and exporters were put face-to-face with UK buyers.
The event was officially opened by HH Princess Lalla Joumala Alaoui, Ambassador of the Kingdom of Morocco to the United Kingdom. Other VIPs attending included Timothy Morris, the UK Ambassador to Morocco, and Alistair Burt MP, Under Secretary of State at the Foreign Office.
A Maroc Export spokesperson said: “The Morocco British Trade Day is part of an ongoing programme of events that are building commercial relationships between Morocco and the UK. The relationship with the UK is very important to us. Trade between the two countries has tripled during the last 10 years and the UK is now our 4th trading partner after France, Spain and Italy.”
The Morocco British Trade Day was hosted by the Moroccan Embassy in conjunction with Maroc Export (the government body that promotes Moroccan exports) and the Arab-British Chamber of Commerce.
In 2009, the total exports from Morocco of textile and clothing amounted to £1.9 billion, with goods worth £398 million going to the UK.
